Sound Catchers is a new out door show for inter-generational audiences in urban areas and green field festival sites. Developed in collaboration with musician Mitch Oldham and producer Lou Lomas.
The show tells the story of travellers from another dimension that are visiting earth to learn about humanity through its rhythms. The diverse music and movement references and styles of the performers inclusively reflect our society and encourage audiences to contemplate culture and identity in terms of celebrating our difference as well as our intrinsic connection.
The live sound sampling element explores ideas around how our personal data is used. Interactive costumes, set and props will be used to examine co-dependence, communication and social responsibility.
We are collaborating with creative technologists and interaction designers to develop wearable tech, props, costume and a mobile set that generate sound and light in response to movement. Light up costumes and masks (see attached) and interactive wearable tech generate sound like a ‘theremin’, and hand held, wireless recording device for capturing audience member’s sound bites that are to be manipulated and looped live. The interaction design of the props and set informs the dance movement and storytelling of the piece to function interactively with audiences and create an opportunity for audiences to play and co-create the performance in real time.
The project has been supported by Arts Council England, Deda OffSite and QuestLab Network, Studio Wayne McGregor.
